Summary: All Xander wants is to hear it from Spike….
Xander,” Willow murmured, watching Spike disappear into his crypt. “Did you know he’s in love with you?” Xander shook his head. “Heard through the grapevine that he’s happiest with you.” She nudged him with her elbow. He glared seriously at her.
“Even if that’s true-which it’s probably not-I need to hear it from him.” He murmured, his eyes glowing. “Why get my hopes up if it’s not true?” He glanced away from the crypt door. “Can we go now please?” He felt his stomach flip flop with confusion. Could Willow be right? Thinking that led him to one other thought.
How could Spike be in love with him?
From that point on, Xander watched Spike every moment they were together. He noticed Willow wasn’t far off. Spike did treat him differently. He still treated him with sarcasm, but there was more to it. He was almost kindly about it, as if trying to hide it.
“Electricity.” Spike murmured, feeling a slight shock off of Xander’s hand. He gently gripped his hand. Xander nervously pulled back, mainly because he was expected to. But yet…he wished he could touch him more without having to care about what others thought. “That’s odd. Only happens with you.”
Spike’s gentle touch said three things.
I love you.
I need you.
Do you love me?
“You really don’t have to walk me home.” Spike said. “Cemetery’s no place for a nummy treat like you.” Xander softly squealed. Maybe he would get to hear what he wanted. After all, this was Spike. He didn’t hide what he felt.
“Xan?” Spike muttered, stopping short. Xander stopped, tripping over the other man and ending up in a heap on the sidewalk. Sore, he glared up at Spike.
“You’ve never called me Xan before.” he commented. Spike offered him his hand. Xander shook his head.
“Take my hand. Let me at least help you up.” Spike commented. Xander reluctantly accepted his hand. As Spike hoisted him to his feet, he listened to the man speak. “Would you hate me if I told you that I love you?” Xander took a step back. He had been waiting to hear that but now that he finally did, it caught him off guard. “Forget it. Bloody Hell, shouldn’t have said anything.” He turned. Xander gripped his shoulder. Spike turned, visibly stunned that he had been stopped.
“What took you so long?” Xander murmured, moving his head closer to Spike. “I’ve been waiting.”
With that, he kissed him.
