Spike never knew he could love someone so much until he had his own little family.
Six-week-old Agatha and Xander were his life. Nights once spent raising hell were now spent feeding the baby and changing diapers, so, Xander could sleep.
The most stressful thing to ever happen to him, Post Baby, was introducing little Agatha to his “family”.
“Dear God. Spike as a father.” joked Angel, in a rare happy moment. “Is the world ready?” Yet, Spike couldn’t help but notice how proud he looked, as he cradled his granddaughter.
Spike was as overprotective as a mother hen. As she was passed back and forth between the Fang Gang, he stalked anxiously, ready to move if it looked like someone was going to hurt her. Xander couldn’t help but snigger. Spike was the last person he had ever expected to act like this!
“She’s beautiful.” Cordelia commented. “Xander’s eyes, and Wil’s hair.” She lightly touched the baby’s red fuzz. Wesley coughed, merely clearing his throat. Spike swooped in, snatched the baby and sent Wesley death glares until he left, swearing he left the lights on in his car.
“Gee, Spike.” Xander murmured. “She’s going to be the most overprotected Daddy’s Girl ever.” He gently eased Agatha out of Spike’s arms.
When the time came to meet Drusilla, Spike practically panicked.
He hadn’t wanted his sire anywhere near him, Xander or the baby. Yet, he also knew an angry Drusilla was far worse than a calm Drusilla.
So, when she showed up at their door, Xander and Spike had no choice but to introduce Agatha to her.
“Now, Dru.” Spike murmured, gazing into her eyes. “You mustn’t touch her. She’s like Miss Edith. Very breakable.” He motioned for Xander, who was practically cowering in a corner, to move forward.
“My childe a Daddy.” Drusilla murmured, moving slowly toward the baby in Xander’s arms. Her eyes went blank, as she glanced forward. “This one is destined to be great. A Slayer.” Spike visibly recoiled. Drusilla reached forward, lightly touching Agatha’s wriggling hand. “Oh, a Great one.” Xander blanched, at Drusilla’s lucid moment. Spike hugged her, escorted her out and told her to come back anytime.
“I told you there was a reason we kept your sire out of our lives.” Xander murmured, bundling Agatha into a flannel blanket. “Now we have to worry when she’s going to get activated.” He gently laid her in her heart-shaped crib.
“Dru could be wrong.”
“Is she ever?”
As he watched his daughter sleep, Spike vowed to protect her for as long as he could, while still letting her enjoy life.
It seemed like the fatherly thing to do.
