Everyone has a dark part. That little voice inside that whisper to you in the still of the night. Telling you to do those thing, those dreadfully awful things. Most people learn to live with this voice, ignore it pretend even that it doesn’t exist.
When you’re a slayer however, and a witch that’s a little bit more than slightly grey that little voice gets harder and harder to ignore. Over time the things it tells you to do don’t sound so bad, and that dark place. That secret part of you that you used to ignore grows and becomes stronger with time.
Its not hard to see, sitting there right behind the eyes. Maybe that’s why the demon did it. Maybe he saw the dark part behind their eyes and wanted to let it free. Or maybe he simply hoped that a slayer and her grey witch friend would be easily swayed. Whatever the reason, the results of the demons spell was without question.
The slayer a girl whose hope was in the day time, but life was lived among the darkness, and the witch whose self indulgence had led to heart touch by that very darkness were no longer the two sweet girls they once claimed to be. Now the dark place from within their hearts had grown till all the light once there was lost to them.
Even demons have that light, the one that calls to family and love. But those two girls, two girls who were once young and innocent. Knew nothing of love, or kindness, or mercy. They knew only hate, and lust, and most worrisome of all they knew power. And nothing, and no one was going to stop them from taking it. Taking the power they saw as theirs, taking it and using it to see others tremble at their very presence.
Spike wasn’t really sure how it had happened. One minute he was caught up in finding out Xander’s secrets. The next he was starting to care about the boy. It hurt to see him looking so scared and helpless so very unsure of everything anymore.
There was a time that Spike might have said that they were friends him and Xander. They had forged a bond fighting along side one another. But he never would have considered lusting after him. That however was then, and now all he could see was the sad brown eyes silently begging to not be hurt. And Spike was nothing if not a sucker for brown eyes.
Watching him skittishly move among the others. Afraid to say the wrong thing, afraid to be hurt again. Spike longed to pull him into his arms and shush away all his fears. Glancing around the room he realized now that he would have to ask for that right. And not from Xander himself.
Giles had always been protective of the boy. He was one of his own, but now he was his son and Spike could see clearly that if he wanted to get close to Xander he would have to get permission from Giles and Ethan. Sitting pondering on the right way to approach them he was disturbed by a yell from Xander.
Xander who was now grasping his head as if in pain. Worried and more than a little frightened Spike rushed to Xander’s side grasping his arm and pulling him close.
Waiting till the pain seemed to have run it course, Spike looked Xander‘s eyes demanding to know the cause of the pain. “What is it pet?”
A little breathless but glad for the arms that held him up, Xander decided to give a straight answer.
“I had a vision.”
