Summary: Alexander Harris is a highly successful author of romantic novels under the pen name Xander Harris. His stories have a twist, his hero is a 500 year old, ensouled vampire called Angel and the love interest is always male. Shy and retiring he lives a quiet, orderly life in the town of Sunnydale where he was born and raised. In contrast his younger step brother Lindsey McDonald lives an exciting life traveling the world and lurching from crisis to crisis. When Lindsey lands in a spot of bother Xander's money can't solve, it's up to Xander to launch a rescue mission. Along the way he meets the handsome, roguish, soldier of fortune William Stone. Question is, is it the best or worst thing to ever happen to him?

Chapter 19/20

"In fact Pet, we all missed you." Spike was pushed forward and he raised his hands, he was flanked by two uniformed and armed men. More armed men appeared ushering Warren's disarmed men in front of them. Warren glared at Xander. "You idiot!" He spat. "You led them here."

Booted footsteps echoed on the stone and O'Connor appeared, brandishing a gun. He walked up to Warren and took the map, he held it in the flames from the oil drum and dropped it burning to the ground. "What the Hell O'Connor. Have you gone fucking crazy?" Warren stared at him. O'Connor's hand lashed out an he backhanded Warren. "Watch your tongue!" He snapped. "The map's worthless they already took the treasure." Warren gaped at Xander. "What! Is no-one honest any more?"

A dirty and wild-eyed looking Oz was dragged from the shadows and thrown into the center of the group. He looked at Spike and mumbled.

"There were cattle prods."

Spike felt a twinge of sympathy.

Oz looked up at Warren. "I had it Warren. In these hands, in my hands." He choked out. "These hands that are going to break every bone in your fucking body!" Oz lunged at Warren pulling up short as O'Connor put his pistol in his face. Oz subsided. "Later." He muttered. O'Connor looked from Spike to Xander and smirked. He walked over to Xander and pointed the gun at his head. "Where is it?" He asked deceptively softly.

"I, I don't know." Xander stammered truthfully. O'Connor's eyes narrowed. "I'm not a patient man. A failing I know, but still... "Where. Is. It?" Xander glanced at Spike. Spike's face was impassive. "We dug, we didn't find anything," his voice trembled.

O'Connor saw the look pass between them and gave a chilling smile. He pointed the gun at Spike. "¡Tráigalo a los cocodrilos!" Two guards grabbed Xander and yanked him forward. "No! Take me, this is my fault! Leave him alone." Lindsey protested surging forward, two guards grasped him and pulled him back. The guards heaved Xander out and towards a muddy, steep sided pool, Xander cast Spike a confused and frightened look.

At gunpoint, the rest of the group were quickly ushered outside. O'Conner walked up to Xander. "Feeding time." He grinned taking out a switchblade knife and flicked the blade open, he grabbed Xander's right hand and slashed it. Xander yelped and his blood splattered on the ground. O'Connor grabbed him and dragged Xander towards the pool, arm outstretched. Xander struggled, twisting, turning and trying to pull away, but O'Connor was just too strong.

He held Xander's arm over the pool, below the crocodiles smelt the blood and began to congregate. "One last time. Where. Is. It?" O'Connor growled. A crocodile leapt from the water snapping it's jaws shut inches from Xander's arm and slithered back, Xander gave a frightened cry.

Spike's nerve broke. "Leave him! Let him go. He doesn't know, I have it." O'Connor didn't move. "Where is it?" Spike looked around. Everyone but O'Connor and Xander stared at him, he gave a frustrated sigh. "It, it's in a safe place." O'Connor spun round dragging Xander in front of him. "I said where!" He shouted. Spike shifted his weight but didn't answer.

O'Connor nodded and the guard nearest Spike slammed his rifle butt into Spike's crotch. Spike gave a pained yelp and doubled over, hands clutching at his crotch. "No! Don't hurt him!" Xander exclaimed struggling.

Lindsey winced. "Nasty."

Spke straightened up slowly, smiling. Oz and Warren looked at each other. Oz shrugged.

Spike began to shimmy.

Something began to roll down his right leg.

Lindsey paled.

Oz and Warren stared.

Xander looked very confused.

With a soft thud the gem landed, a guard shone a flash light and everyone gasped. The blue gem lay glistening and its many facets twinkled brightly as it nestled on the toe of Spike's boot. O'Connor gasped, eyes widening. Spike glared at O'Connor. "Choke on it!" He snarled. Spike kicked the gem in the direction of the crocodile pool.

The gem flew into the air and made a graceful arc as it came down to Earth. O'Connor lent to the left and extended his arm catching the gem in his hand before it disappeared into the mud.

O'Connor screamed when the crocodile's jaws closed on his hand. There was the crunch of bone and the tearing of flesh, muscle and sinew, the crocodile fell back into the pool. O'Connor's left hand and the gem were gone.

O'Connor continued to scream as he fell to his knees.
