Chapter 4/23 + Epilogue
Spike backed away hands raised. "Take it easy mate."It wasn't so much the gun in the short man's hand as the manic gleam in his eye had him worried. "Have you any idea how long I've waited for this scumbag?" Oz advanced waving his gun.
Spike's back hit the wooden fence.
"You're all I thought about for six long months." Oz hissed. "Warren escaped, the gun boat sprung a leak and he got clean away. They arrested me, put me in jail while they spent six months looking for something to pin on me. There was every kind of whacko, sleaze bag and low life in that joint. I nearly became Bubba's special friend!" He shuddered. "And rats, rats! I'm full of rat bites. I had to have ten weeks of rabies shots with needles this big." He demonstrated with his thumb and forefinger.
"And all I thought about was you Stone." He stuck the gun in Spike's face.
"Well, I'm flattered mate, I'm sorry you had such a tough time. Would a hundred dollars help?"
"A hund... You cocky bastard! You owe me big time. So no more jokes. What did you do with it?"
Spike shrugged. "Do with what?"
"The gem, moron! I, I mean I never did anything to you."
Spike scowled. "You stole the jewel, you held us at gunpoint, you were going to kidnap Xander!"
"Stole the jewel? Stole the........" He spluttered indignantly. "And what the fuck were you doing? The gun wasn't loaded, dummy." Oz swallowed hard, that was information Stone didn't need to know.
Both men looked at the gun, Spike raised an eyebrow and slowly lowered his hands.
Suddenly two knives embedded themselves in the fence, passing through Oz's sleeve. "Holy shit!" Oz gasped and dropped the gun. A wild looking man ran towards them with a black beard and long, flowing dark hair, Spike quickly raised his hands again.
"Next time you won't be so lucky!" He hissed at Oz.
He turned to Spike. "I am Tarak You must come with me, now." Spike blinked. "Bloody Hell, what are you?"
"Omar stole our precious jewel."
Oz looked up. "Jewel?"
" The author is your man, you were invited with him, you can get into Omar's palace, my people cannot." The man persisted.
Spike scowled. "What people? I don't know what the Hell you're talking about and he's not my man anymore, he made his choice."
"You must come now and help me find the jewel." He pulled Spike forward by the arm, Spike shook him off irritably.
"What jewel?" Oz beamed.
Tarak turned. "Al- Jawhara. The Jewel of The Nile. My people's most precious, priceless jewel, Omar has stolen it, he is bad, evil man."
"Oh, that jewel." Oz pulled out the knives. "Omar that scum, I spit on him! Spike, pal, buddy let's help this nice man get his jewel back." He grinned.
"Yes, yes. Help me." Tarak grinned at Spike.
Spike sighed. "Look mate, I don't know who you are, or where you're from or what you're on. But I'm getting in that launch, going out to my yacht, getting stinking drunk and sailing for Greece."
"No. No you must come now before Omar kills many people. As long as Omar has the jewel nothing can stop him."
Spike's temper was slipping and the muscle twitched in his cheek. He took the box of JD from the Harley and put it on the quay. "Look I'm leaving on that boat, you guys do what you like."
There was a loud explosion behind him. Spike jumped and look of resignation crossed his face. Without turning round he muttered. "That was my yacht."
Oz peered passed him with round eyes and nodded. "Who are you? The Prince of Darkness? Ain't you got any friends?" Spike slowly turned and groaned. "I have nothing left, everything was on that boat."
Tarak and Oz stood beside him and nodded sympathetically. "This is the work of Omar," Tarak stated.
"Omar blew up my boat huh?" Spike's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"And your man is in danger too, I'll take you to him." Tarak offered helpfully.
"I'm coming too." Oz declared.
"The Hell you are!" Spike growled.
