Chapter 11/23 + Epilogue
Rating: NC17 Overall
The three men ran, Spike in the lead, Xander bringing up the rear. They ducked and weaved, dived behind anything that would give them cover from the pursuing soldiers; but Spike knew without weapons it was only a question of time. More of Tarak's men swept in from the desert through the open, City gates.
Around Oz was mayhem. Omar's soldiers fought with Tarak's men, scimitars flashed, horses and men fell. Tarak himself a scimitar in each hand fought like a demon cutting down the soldiers before they had time to fire their rifles. The air was filled with dust and the screams of injured and dying soldiers, warriors and horses.
Oz edged nervously along the wall, it was time to leave.
Spike led them round a corner and straight into a dead end. "Spike, what now?" Xander asked urgently. Spike looked around. "There, there over that wall." He jumped up onto the wall and straddled it. intent on helping Xander over. He was shocked to see Al-Jawahara on the wall beside him, already helping Xander up, he glowered.
The three men dropped down and landed behind some oil drums.
Xander recognized it at once as the place the helicopter had landed, where Omar had stopped him taking photos. Tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, trucks and fighter aircraft stood around. Sirens sounded and soldiers ran everywhere. They ducked down.
Oz ducked and weaved, dodging the men fighting. He needed to reach Humphrey and make good an escape. "Excuse me, pardon me, watch how you go there." He ducked as a scimitar whistled over his head. He ran. Humphrey was not easily flustered. The noise was bothersome but the antics of the humans amused him, he saw his diminutive, human friend weaving towards him and pricked his ears.
Oz staggered up to Humphrey. "Humph, we gotta get out of here." Oz tried to push his way between Humphrey and the frightened donkeys. "Koosh, Humph, koosh."
It was a pity Oz was stood so close behind him, Humphrey kooshed on top of Oz.
All that could be seen were Oz's legs stretching out from under Humphrey and his hands beating the ground as he gasped for air.
Humphrey looked round, his friend had disappeared again, never mind he would wait.
Spike hunched down in the copilot seat of the fighter. Xander and Al-Jawahara hunched down behind. Spike had found a flare gun and he brandished it at the young pilot as he climbed aboard. "Ok mate estimated time of departure is now. Get in." The frightened man threw up his arms and gibbered at Spike in Arabic before scrambling down and running away.
Spike groaned. "Oh Bloody Hell!" Xander leaned forward. "Now what do we do?" Spike threw up his hands. "How the Hell should I know?"
"Excuse me, look." Al-Jawahara pointed at the soldiers running towards the plane.
Al-Jawahara saw a lever, he pushed it slowly the plane began to move.
"Spike! What did you do?" Xander gestured wildly. "You don't know how to fly!"
Spike rolled his eyes. "Do something!" Xander screeched as the aircraft gathered speed and the cockpit canopy lowered.
"I'm trying," Spike pressed buttons and pulled levers. "I used to be good at Space Invaders as a kid."
"This is no time to reminisce!" Xander clutched the seat as the aircraft lurched forward.
The aircraft swung round of its own accord and trundled towards the wall. "Aww Hell!" Spike looked around for something to press, push or pull. He saw something that looked familiar, like a computer joystick, he grasped it and pressed the red trigger.
Bullets sprayed the wall. "Whooooo!" He grinned. "It is fucking Space Invaders!"
The joystick steered the aircraft, the red button fired the guns. Spike was in his element. Soldiers ran for their lives, oil drums became fireballs, trucks, helicopters and aircraft blew up. Xander bounced happily in his seat as things exploded round them. "Way to go Spike!"
Spike grinned and steered the aircraft through burning wreckage, then a large, menacing tank drove into their path. "Shit!" Spike swung sharp left as the tank took aim. They were boxed in, their only escape through a wall directly ahead. Spike fired at the wall, nothing happened.
"Spike?" Xander frowned.
"Out of ammo." Spike stated bluntly.
Xander leaned forward. "There, it says 'rocket release' press that," he pointed at a blue button.
Spike pressed, the rocket fell harmlessly to the ground.
"Shit!" They swore in unison.
The plane trundled towards the wall, the tank drew a bead and in frustration, Spike pressed everything.
Twin rockets fired from the aircraft and blew a hole in the wall, they whooped as the aircraft sped through and into the City.
The aircraft cut a swathe through the City. People ran, stalls were wrecked, buildings and walls damaged. Spike and Xander gestured wildly for people to get out of their way as the plane ploughed on. Soldiers and warriors stopped fighting and ran and rode for their lives.
There was a crunch of metal and they lost part of both wings.
The tank gave chase.
Tarak looked on in awe. He squinted as he recognised Al-Jawahara in the back of the aircraft. "Al-Jawahara! Al-Jawahara.! Stone is stealing The Jewel!" He yelled, his men spun round and looked .
The aircraft reached the City gates, now closed and barred. Spike shrugged and released four rockets, the gates exploded in a shower of wood and debris.
The aircraft trundled through and into the desert, followed by tanks, jeeps, armored personnel carriers and Tarak's warriors. Tarak searched for his horse and he spied Oz's legs sticking out under Humphrey and yanked him out.
"Your friend has betrayed us and you! He steals the jewel!" He spat.
Oz scrambled up. "What!" Oz ran after the plane. "Stone, you bastard! You thief! You ain't doin' this to me again. I catch you and I'm feeding you and your boy toy to the fucking maggots!"
He ran back to Humphrey and scrambled into the saddle. "Ok Humph let's go!" Humphrey rose and loped into the desert. Oz hung on to the front of the saddle for dear life. "I gotcha now Stone, You ain't getting' away." He muttered darkly.
