Chapter 23/23+ Epilogue
Rating: NC17 Overall
Xander didn't know what to expect as they crashed into the booth. A table covered in a black cloth and a goat with it's throat cut wouldn't have surprised him, instead he was met with a startled looking Ethan Rayne and banks of computers and consoles.
Ethan took in the furious look on Spike's face and before Spike could grab him he raised his hands. "Take it easy boys, no need for violence. I take it you're not fans of Prince Omar?"
"You take it right mate!" Spike grabbed the front of his shirt.
"Careful Spike he might put a spell on you or something." Xander warned. "Spel...." Ethan's jaw dropped. "What on earth is the dear boy talking about?" Spike rolled his eyes. "He thinks you're a magician."
"I am. A special effects magician, an absolute wizard!" He stuck out his chest proudly. "The best in the business, worked with all the great rock stars!"
Xander looked sheepish.
Spike let him go and Ethan straightened and smoothed his shirt.
"I'm being paid by Omar to put on a show, not to engage in fisticuffs!" He took off his headset. "I simply cannot work under these conditions. Come gentlemen, we've been paid, time to leave. If you want to stop the show, try that joystick there." He pointed. "We're leaving, never liked the pompous ass anyway!" With that said he and his men left the booth.
The people chanted and cheered, Omar stood up arms wide, then the whole throne set started to sway. Omar staggered and glared towards the booth. Xander and Spike grinned at him and waved. Xander yanked the joystick from side to side and the swaying became more violent and the crowd gasped.
Omar pointed to the booth. "Get them!" He roared and soldiers started to swarm up the scaffolding. "Here they come." Spike looked around for something to throw, he tore out a console amid sparks and flashes and he flung it down the scaffolding, knocking off several of the climbing soldiers.
Oz emerged from the catacombs. "God will look at this." All around soldiers and Tarak's men were fighting, warriors from other tribes joined in, daggers and scimitars flashing. "Looks like my eighth grade school yard." He ducked. "Excuse me, pardon me, make way there, coming through."
He walked straight into Rashid.
"Oh, hi. Rashid, how you doing?" Oz started to back away, Rashid advanced a murderous look in his eyes. "Take it easy. Let's talk this over."
Rashid drew his scimitar.
"Before you butcher me alive."
Rashid raised his scimitar.
Oz screwed his eyes shut.
Oz opened his eyes and gasped.
Humphrey had been watching for his friend and saw the big human about to attack him and quite frankly, he wasn't having it! He padded over and sunk his teeth as far and as hard into Rashid's arm as he could.
Rashid raised his scimitar to slash Humphrey's throat. Oz saw red, he kneed Rashid in the balls as hard as he could and as he doubled over, smashed a stone pot over his head. Humphrey stood on him.
Oz straightened his turban and sniffed. "Nobody hurts Humphrey!"
The throne swung to and fro violently, Omar staggered and looked for an escape route. One wild swing sent the set crashing into some scaffolding, Omar saw his chance and leapt to safety. The whole set swung back and crashed down onto the stage. The crowd began to scream and run as the stage erupted in flames.
Suddenly there was an explosion and the crowd fell silent as the flames turned blue. Al -Jawahara walked slowly through the flames, motioning with his hands for the crowd to remain calm. Tarak shouted . "Al- Jawahara!, Al -Jawahara!" His shout was taken up and soon the whole crowd chanted loudly as the small, Holy Man stood smiling amidst the flames.
Spike and Xander watched as the crowd began to drop to their knees. Omar's flags were tossed aside, banners torn down, they looked at each other and grinned. They had forgotten the soldiers and suddenly one appeared through the trap door. Spike slammed down the door and dragged a heavy console on top of it. "Quick, over the side, climb down onto the walkway." He urged Xander.
They climbed down together and ran along the walkway. Oz looked up and saw what was happening, the soldiers were catching up fast.
At the end of the walkway Spike stopped. "Keep going, I'll take care of these guys." Xander hesitated. "Go!" Spike ordered picking up a steel pipe.
Xander began to climb up instead of down.
Spike ducked and swung the pipe as the soldier closed on him, the soldier toppled from the walkway but three more were coming fast. Spike saw a banner at the edge of the scaffolding, he jumped and grasped it sliding down to the ground. He looked up and saw Xander climbing, soldiers after him. He heard a shrill whistle and turned, Oz was at the controls of the crane and was lowering a large, steel hook down to him.
"I knew we'd hook up again." Oz grinned. "Quick jump on and I'll lift you up to your boy toy." Spike hesitated looking uncertain. " I swear to God on Humphrey's life, no tricks!" He crossed himself. "Trust me!"
And Spike did, he grasped the hook.
Xander climbed and reached the walkway above, he looked round and began to run along it. He glanced behind looking for soldiers and ran straight into Omar, he recoiled and almost lost balance. Omar drew a dagger. "I am dead Mr. Harris all that will be written for Omar is an epitaph." He hissed.
Xander backed away.
"But I will not die alone."
He lunged at Xander, Xander dodged and grabbed his wrist. Omar swung his fist and knocked Xander to the ground. Xander scrabbled backward crab-like as Omar advanced, dagger raised.
"Who is there to save you now, hmm?" Omar looked up just as Spike swung towards him, his legs outstretched. His feet hit Omar in the chest and with a scream he plummeted into the flames below.
Spike left go of he hook and landed cat-like on the walkway.
Xander looked up. "Damn, how do you do that?"
Chuckling Spike pulled Xander to his feet and gently pushed the hair out of his eyes.
"You need a bloody keeper, you do."
"You applying for the job?" Xander grinned.
Spike pretended to think about it. "Hmmm, could be," he answered. "could be."
