Summary: Over 3,000 years ago Angelus the high priest of Seti I, was given the assignment of preparing the recently dead for their journey into the afterlife. Angelus made one terrible mistake - he became smitten with Xan-uk-amun, the male concubine of the Pharaoh himself. Driven mad by jealousy and love, Angelus and Xan-uk-amun murdered the Pharaoh. Angelus's punishment was to be buried alive and suffer the torment of an eternal life in his wretched tomb. In 1925, a band of adventurers seeking fame and fortune - led by William (Spike) Barstow, an English expatriate who had joined the foreign legion, and Xander Harris, an amateur archeologist - find a previously unknown burial site in Egypt. The team starts to dig, hoping to find lost riches, but instead they disturb the tomb of Angelus, and soon the cursed priest rises from his grave to wreck vengeance on them and humanity.

They made their way back to the preparation room and Spike climbed up the rope and back through the crevice, whilst Xander and Wes tried to work out which passageway led down to the subterranean room below the statue of Anubis. Spike dropped down a couple of pickaxes and a shovel and repelled down and re-joined them. Snyder wandered around listlessly. They set off along the most likely passageway in the same formation as before, Xander tucked behind Spike, Wes behind him and a grumbling Snyder in the rear, Xander carried most the equipment as he had no torch to hold.
The passage was longer and twisted and turned along the way, until none of them were sure in which direction they were facing, now and again they heard the same rattling and clawing in the walls as before, starting and stopping abruptly. Xander was just about to give up and advise they go back and try another passage when it started to slope gently downward, further on the incline became much steeper and they began to drop sharply. The last few yards were very steep and Xander kept running into Spike, the blond didn't seem to mind. Suddenly the passage widened and leveled out into a moderately sized chamber. Xander looked around while Spike and Wes wedged their torches in the rocks, other low, narrow passages led away left and right. Near as I can tell," he said excitedly. "we're right under Anubis's feet."
Spike took another swing at the roof of the chamber with his pickaxe. "Bloody Hell, so let me get this right, they stuck a sharp, red, hot poker up your nose scrambled your brain a bit, then pulled it out through your nostrils?" He grimaced. "That had to have hurt!" Xander sighed. "It's called mummification, you'll be dead when they do it." Spike nodded. "Just for the record, if I die here, don't put me down for mummification." Wes nodded. "Me neither." Rock broke away and joined the pile already littering the floor. Xander, safely tucked in a corner watched while Wes, waiting his turn, played golf with his pickaxe and a large pebble; he swung and the pebble bounced off the wall. "We should come up right between Anubis's legs." Xander encouraged. "Good, we'll wait until those beastly Americans are asleep and then steal the book from under their noses." Wes grinned. "Oh," he glanced at Xander. "No offense Xander." Xander smiled. "None taken." Spike rested for a minute leaning on his pickaxe. "Are you sure you can find this secret compartment?"
"Oh yes," Xander nodded. "If Mr Giles hasn't found it first." Spike and Wes glanced at each other. Spike changed the subject. "Where's our smelly little friend?" Xander and Wes shrugged.
Snyder crawled along the low, narrow passage, he hadn't come to Hamunaptra to scrabble in the dirt or watch Barstow and the boy dance around each other, why didn't they just fuck? He leered, that'd be worth seeing. Suddenly he came out into a small, dark chamber, Snyder held up the torch and the flickering light fell on an ornate wall mural, quickly he fixed the torch into a crevice and looked more closely. Embedded into it are dozens of black, amethyst Scarabs, glittering images of the sacred beetles. Snyder's mouth dropped in awe and he quickly pulled out a pocket knife and began prying the precious bugs from the wall and dropped them into a canvas bag slung across his chest.
Above in Anubis's chamber the three Americans and Oz gathered around Giles as he ran his hand down the seam and cleared away the sand. "It's the secret compartment." He nodded. Mears started forward with a crowbar and inserted it in the seam, Giles grabbed his arm. "Seti was no fool." Mears hesitated seeing the earnest look on Giles face and backed away. "Let them open it." Giles nodded towards the diggers, Mears nodded. Giles turned and spoke to the diggers in Arabic, they shook their heads and began to back away, fear on their faces, he spoke louder but they only shook their heads more emphatically. Mears drew his gun and motioned three diggers forward, they hesitated and he cocked his gun. The diggers stepped forward and inserted crowbars into the seam, the other diggers backed further away and cowered, the Americans, Giles and Oz exchanged glances and joined them.
Spike swung at the roof, a large chunk of rock fell away and there was a loud cracking and rumbling sound. Spike grabbed Xander and yanked him back, Wes dived for the far wall. With a rumble a massive stone casement fell from the roof and crashed to the floor, filling the chamber with choking dust.
The Americans and Oz heard the crash and exchanged looks, but Giles and the diggers were transfixed on the seam. "Feni! Feni!" Giles shouted and the diggers heaved at the crowbars, Giles yelled again and the diggers strained harder. The compartment began to give and Giles urged them on, with one final pull the seam gave and an intense spray of liquid hit the diggers, they began to scream and clutch their faces, the skin melting from their bones; they were skeletal by the time they hit the floor.
The dust began to settle and they stopped coughing, Wes picked himself up and began to dust off. Spike looked at the hole in the ceiling, Xander ran his hands over the object, frowning. "It looks like a sarcophagus." Spike scowled. "Bloody Hell, they buried someone in the ceiling?" Xander shook his head. "No he was buried beneath the statue of Anubis," he paused. "which means he was someone of very great importance or..."
"Or..." Spike raised an eyebrow. "He did something very, very naughty."
