Summary: Over 3,000 years ago Angelus the high priest of Seti I, was given the assignment of preparing the recently dead for their journey into the afterlife. Angelus made one terrible mistake - he became smitten with Xan-uk-amun, the male concubine of the Pharaoh himself. Driven mad by jealousy and love, Angelus and Xan-uk-amun murdered the Pharaoh. Angelus's punishment was to be buried alive and suffer the torment of an eternal life in his wretched tomb. In 1925, a band of adventurers seeking fame and fortune - led by William (Spike) Barstow, an English expatriate who had joined the foreign legion, and Xander Harris, an amateur archeologist - find a previously unknown burial site in Egypt. The team starts to dig, hoping to find lost riches, but instead they disturb the tomb of Angelus, and soon the cursed priest rises from his grave to wreck vengeance on them and humanity.

Chapter 29/31 + Prologue

Rating: NC17 Overall

The others joined Spike in blasting the mummified priests. Ardeth Bay opened up with the Lewis Gun and when Wes ran out of ammunition he took one of Spike's guns from his shoulder holster and continued to fire. Spike noticed that even blasted apart the individual parts kept on moving. "Bloody Hell, give me a break!" He exclaimed. More mummified priests came at them crawling over and through the treasure as well as from the floor. They begin to back away as the priests advanced on them, then they turned and made for one of the passageways , the priests and priest pieces after them.

Oz tumbled into the treasure chamber and gazed round in awe a wide grin on his face; he grabbed handfuls of jewels and showered them over himself giggling gleefully.

Xander came to and tried to move his arms, it took him several seconds to realize he was shackled by his wrists and ankles to the black altar. A rat scurried over him and he twisted and turned trying to dislodge it, he turned his head and screamed as he looked into the rotted, mummified face of Xan-uk-amun laid beside him.

They raced down the passageway firing as they went, relentlessly the priests pursued them. Ardeth Bay ran out of ammunition and flung the Lewis Gun down and drew his scimitar, they ran a bit further and the passageway opened into a small chamber, at the center the lower half of the giant statue of Horus. "Horus old chap, there you are." Delighted ,Wes stepped up to the statue. Spike and Ardeth Bay faced the advancing horde of priests. Spike reached into his pack and took out a stick of dynamite and a match from his pocket. Ardeth Bay reached across. "Allow me." He took the dynamite from Spike and the match, without a word he struck the match on Spike's stubbly chin, Spike yelped, Ardeth Bay grinned and hurled the dynamite down the passage, it exploded sealing it off. Now they had only one way out, along another dark, creepy passageway.

Chained tight to the altar Xander struggled to free himself. Mummy priests began to surround him, they knelt down and began to chant making a hideous noise because they had no tongues. Angelus strode through them carrying the black book, The Book of The Dead. He was bare chested and around is neck the golden collar of the High Priest of Osiris, his rich robes hung open and flowing about him. He reached in his robes and pulled out the key he'd taken previously from Oz and unlocked the book, returning the key to his robes. He gazed at Xan-uk-amun and caressed his rotted cheek with one hand.

All three men dug frantically trying to uncover the secret compartment and then they found the seam and began to pull and haul at it. Wes suddenly stopped. "Remember what happened to the American's diggers?" He and Spike exchanged looks and then continued to haul on the seam. A noise attracted Spike's attention, Mummy priests were coming along the other passageway, he grabbed his rifle, Ardeth Bay took it from him and a handful of shells. "Save your boy, kill the creature." He dived into the passage and began firing. Spike and Wes hauled and the seam began to give. Suddenly three Mummy priests burst through the floor, they had been charged with bringing The Book of The Living to Angelus. One grabbed Spike round the throat, another Wes, the third hauled on the seam with bony hands and supernatural strength; there was a hiss and the compartment flew open enveloping the mummies in a blast of acid sand and they melted horribly.

Angelus began to read from The Book of The Dead and a swirling, black fog began to rise and fill the chamber reaching out to Xander and Xan-uk-amun. Xander's eyes widened in horror as the cold, clammy fog touched him.

Wes and Spike hauled out the heavy ornate chest and pulled off the lid, inside something had been wrapped in burlap. They reached in and pulled it out, it wasn't very thick, but very heavy, Wes opened the burlap and gasped. A golden light filled the room and reflected off their faces and they stared in awe and wonder at the solid, gold book of Amun Ra. Behind them they heard the Mummy priests, they'd dug their way through the rubble and were coming, Spike groaned. "Bloody Hell, don't they ever give up!" He reached for his last stick of dynamite and lit it. "We better get lucky, this is the last stick." He pulled Wes, clinging to the book behind the statue, he threw the dynamite at the far wall, it exploded in a shower of debris and dust leaving a convenient hole. "C'mon!" He dragged Wes and shoved him through the hole. "Ardeth mate, c'mon!" Spike dived through the hole and crawled after Wes. It took him several minutes to realize Ardeth Bay was not with them and the rifle shots had stopped.

Oz staggered across the sand dragging the heavy saddle bags filled with golden treasure. Camels wandered back and forth left from the previous expedition. He caught up the largest and as it knelt, he struggled to fix the heavy saddle bags to the saddle and then made to mount, he hesitated, looking back at the temple. There were several other camels, he could load them up and lead them. He caught up two more and tied them with the already laden camel and as his greed overwhelmed him, he dashed back into the temple.

Angelus continued to read from the black book, the mummy priests chanted and rocked back and forth. The black fog swirled through the Canopic Jars and into Xander he stiffened, jerked and shuddered as if electrified, the fog passed through him and into Xan-uk-amun. The swirling fog enveloped them all, the priests chanting reached a crescendo and Xan-uk-amun opened his crusty eyelids, Xander stared in horror as Xan-uk-amun turned his rotted head toward him and stared with empty eye sockets.

Angelus stepped forward holding a gold, sacrificial knife, Xander struggled wildly as he raised it over his heart. "With your death my love will live and together we will be invincible." Xander's eyes widened in terror.

Wes staggered into the chamber, Spike behind him, he held the book aloft as Angelus spun round. "Xander old chap, I've found it, I've found the book."
