Xander woke with a scream, instantly waking the vampire next to him. He was pulled against a cool body, hands running comfortingly over him. “Another nightmare luv?” Spike whispered.
”Yeah, sorry.” Xander turned to hide his head into Spike’s chest.
“What was this one about?” his lover asked gently. Spike had been with Xander for just over a year and in that time the human had had more than his fair share of nightmares. Most of them were of demons they had killed and more than a few were of his father. Spike was more then a little alarmed when tears dampened his chest. It wasn’t often that a nightmare would cause Xander tears. “Xander, tell me what it was about.”
Xander forced himself to look at Spike, his hazel eyes shining bright with tears. “You left me,” the words were whimpered but he couldn’t force himself to care about how pathetic he sounded. “You left me alone.”
“Hey now,” Spike wiped away the stray tears. “You know I’m not going anywhere. I love you too much to leave you.” These dreams were rare. Occasionally Xander would dream that Drusilla had come back and Spike would leave with his Sire, leaving Xander alone. “Drusilla has nothing on you.”
“It wasn’t like that,” Xander explained as he rubbed his eyes like a child. “You pissed Buffy off. More so then usual, and she couldn’t stand it anymore. She looked at me and apologized but said it needed to be done and before I could ask her what she meant the stake was in your chest. You reached out for me to save you but I couldn’t and then you were gone.”
Spike rolled them over so he now laid on Xander. Tremors slowly faded and the tears dried as Spike gave the brunette a chance to calm down. “Baby, the slayer is never going to dust me. As shocking as it is, we’ve become friends. Not just for your benefit but real friends. Bloody disturbing as it may sound but I actually like her.” A shudder ran over Spike’s body.
“But you always fight,” Xander argued.
“Well yeah,” Spike said giving him a ‘duh’ look. “But you and I fight as well and we love each other right?”
Xander nodded, not ever thinking of it that way before. “Maybe you should be nice to her for a little while though,” he ventured, still not feeling as confident on the matter.
“Or I could just stay away from her,” Spike leered before swooping in for a kiss. “I’m sure there is a lot of stuff we could do to make sure I don’t go aggravating the slayer.”
“Yeah?” Xander swallowed, his eyes glued to Spike’s lips.
“In fact I think we should start now. I suddenly have the urge to find Buffy and start insulting her wardrobe.”
Xander’s eyes widened in mock fear, “I better distract you then.” A hand trailed under the covers squeezing Spike’s ass.
“If anyone can distract me it’s you, Xanpet,” Spike murmured scraping blunt teeth over Xander’s neck. “Not going to leave you. Love you too bloody much to do something so stupid. No more nightmares of something so absurd.”
“Love you too Spike,” Xander kissed him nice and slow wanting it to last. He pulled away with a sheepish look, “Sorry, I’m supposed to be distracting you.”
A pale finger ran over bruised lips, “I think you were doing a pretty good job.” Spike said before kissing Xander senseless, driving any nightmares from Xander’s mind.
