“Ow, damn it!” Xander cursed sucking his right index finger into his mouth. He had been working on a new shelf for Dawn and running his hand over the grain to make sure it was smooth. It hadn’t been, now he had a sliver embedded in the pad of his finger.
“What?” Spike walked into the living room in just his black boxers, rubbing at his hair with a towel. He had just finished having one of the hottest showers he’d ever had.
Xander tried using his left hand to pull the piece of wood out but it wouldn’t have any of that, apparently it decided that Xander’s finger was its new home. “I got a damn sliver from Dawnie’s shelf.”
Spike went over to Xander grabbing his hand, “Where?” He demanded to know while looking for it.
“Hey!” Xander pulled his hand free. “Careful it hurts!”
“Don’t be a such a bloody baby, pet,” Spike argued and grabbed Xander’s hand again. “Hold still,” Spike ordered as he held the injured finger in between both of his hands, “Don’t want to cause the damn chip to fire, now do we?” He oh so gently placed both of his thumbs on either side of partially exposed woodchip before digging his nails into the flesh to draw the sliver out, just as you’d do with a pimple.
Xander watched in awe as Spike was able to remove it with no pain. Spike held the half inch bit of wood in between the tips of his fingers. A tiny ‘tink’ was heard when Spike dropped it into an ashtray.
“Better?” Spike asked still holding the injured digit.
“Better, but it still hurts,” Xander pouted and wiggled his finger.
Spike smirked and brought Xander’s hand up and pressed a soft kiss to his finger, “How about now?”
“One more?” Xander asked and was pulled into Spike’s arms. The kiss was slow and lazy, one of Xander’s favourite kinds. This was where they could take as long as they liked with each other.
Spike pulled back and smirked when Xander whimpered from the loss of contact, “Now that you’re all fixed up, are you done with your little project, pet?” Spike asked and rubbed his thumb over the small puncture.
“For now I guess. I promised Dawn I’d have this done by Friday. Why what do you have in mind?” Xander inquired as he used his free hand to wipe any sweat off his forehead.
Spike dropped Xander’s hand and picked up the ashtray, “Nothing, I’m just bloody sick of pulling little pieces of wood out of your hand.” He looked at the ashtray, “One time is reasonable, two times is understandable but luv, twelve times?” Spike looked at the small stack of shavings. “You’re a bloody carpenter! How is this even possible?”
A small shrug and a sheepish smile appeared on Xander’s face, “I forgot my work gloves at the site.”
Spike shook his head and turned away to go get dressed. “I’m in love with a sodding idiot,” He muttered to himself. “You’re lucky you’re pretty, Xan.” He called over his shoulder.
“So you keep telling me,” Xander laughed at Spike’s retreating back.
