Spike never used to hide drinking blood. In fact he went out of his way to make sure someone was always watching when he fed, for the sheer joy of grossing them out. He used to get off on it, and would tell them blood is life and that everyone should get used to it.
Now that Spike was with Xander he refused to drink in front of him. Even if it was in a mug and the red liquid couldn’t be seen. Xander was always curious as to why Spike would wait until Xander was either in the shower, asleep or out of the house to eat. Finally not being able to fight the curiosity anymore Xander decided to ask.
“Spike why won’t you feed in front of me?” Xander asked not beating around the bush on the subject.
The question had thrown Spike for a loop. Spike opened and closed his mouth a few times trying to figure out what to say. “Don’t think much about it, do I?” Spike lied.
“Liar,” Xander called him out.
Spike shrugged, “Know you don’t like it.”
This time it was Xander who was shocked, “What’s that now?”
“It disgusts you, so I wait until you’re not around. It’s no big deal, I understand.” Spike answered nonchalant.
“Spike…” Xander didn’t know what to say. “It hasn’t bothered me in along time. Not since back in the basement, but even than it was more annoyance then disgust because you always used my favourite mug. I know you’re a vampire and your feeding habits.”
“It really doesn’t bother you, luv?” Spike asked with uncertainty.
Xander nodded, “I’m not like Buffy. I’m not going to pretend you’re not what you are, and I’m not going to ask you to be anything that you’re not. If I wanted to be with a human than I’d find myself a human,” He walked over Spike looping his fingers into the belt loops of Spike’s jeans pulling him close. “Now stop being a sodding wanker.” Xander said in a terrible British accent that sounded more German.
Spike winced at the accent, “Still needs work luv, and you’re right; I’m still the big bad.”
“There’s my little trooper!” Xander teased earning him a glare. “Now go get some blood. I know for a fact you haven’t eaten yet today.”
“Thanks luv,” Spike said and Xander could see in the blue eyes that he meant it. He kissed Xander before going to the kitchen. Spike would need to get used to the fact that he was now with someone that accepted him for who he was, not that he was about to complain.
