I hope someone here will recognize this tale from the tattered remnants of my memory.
It's epic, Spike/Xander, much of the tale set in Europe visiting the villa of Buffy's significant other, an Immortal who is later revealed to also be an ancient vampire. As I recall, there's a couple of secondary pairings, but the main storyline is Spike/Xander.
